In the year 2022, the Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of the Municipality of Thera covered about 50% of the needs of the Municipality in drinking desalinated water, while the remaining 50% was produced with brackish water from drillings.

 

The thirteen initial desalination plants had a total production capacity of 7,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day. In the year 2023, six additional desalination plants became fully operational, with a capacity of 6,000 cubic meters per day, in the settlements of Oia, Fira and Emporio.

 

In addition, two desalination plants with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters per day are in trial operation in the settlement of Agia Paraskevi, while two more desalination plants with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters per day are under construction.
 

The main mission of the company is to cover in the future the total water supply needs of the Municipality of Thera with potable desalinated water.
